Employment of graduates

The educational programs “Informatics” and “Informatics and Computer Technologies” are universal, there is no such sphere of activity in which the graduates of the department would not have the opportunity to demonstrate their professional qualities, skills and acquired knowledge. Over the years of its existence, the department has trained about 500 specialists and masters who work at enterprises in Ukraine, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Poland, Israel, Australia.

Now the department constantly receives orders from city enterprises, firms and institutions with a request to provide them with specialists. The specialty “Informatics” is one of the most prestigious at PDTU, almost all of its graduates find employment.

International relations

The Department of Informatics and Mathematics cooperates with other educational institutions of Ukraine, CIS countries, Western Europe, China, and constantly participates in the European programs Tempus, Erasmus Mundus. Most of the teachers of the department give scientific reports at international scientific conferences. Students of the department have the opportunity to undergo internships, graduation and semester studies at universities in Germany and Poland.

In addition, students participate in prestigious international competitions. Thus, in June 2018, the last stage of the “Programmer 2018” competition was held in Kyiv. A total of 810 participants applied for the competition. Among them was the “KorLab” team of five students of the Department of Informatics of the State Higher Educational Institution “PDTU”: Taranov Ivan, Romanyuta Maksym, Pavlovsky Ivan, Stakhov Dmitry, Kulishova Kateryna. The “KorLab” team became one of the winners of the Social IT hackathon competition and, together with 5 other teams, went to the international exhibition “CEATEC JAPAN 2018” in Tokyo (Japan) in October 2018.

Historical reference

In 1990, a new general education department “Computer Engineering and Applied Mathematics” was created at the Mariupol Metallurgical Institute. On its basis, in 1993, a new specialty “Informatics” was opened, and the department, remaining general education, also received the status of a graduate department. The first head was Associate Professor, Ph.D. in Economics. I.E. Postemsky. From 1995 to 1997, the department was headed by Associate Professor, Ph.D. in Engineering. O.G. Bursa. In 1997, the department was headed by Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor V.P. Grankin. From 2010 to 2019, the position of head of the department was held by Professor E.A. Chichkarev. In 2019, the rector appointed a former graduate of the department, now a Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor D. S. Mironenko, to the position of head of the department.

In 2022, the university was temporarily moved to the city of Dnipro, and the extremely difficult work of establishing the work of the department and restoring the educational process was undertaken by O.A. Tuzenko. Since February 2023, the position of head of the department has been held by Anastasiia Valentinivna Sergienko, also a former graduate of the department.

Currently, the department employs 9 teachers, including 1 Doctor of Science and 6 Candidates of Science. The department’s employees have published about 500 scientific publications in Ukrainian and foreign publications, including 27 patents, 4 books. The department is equipped with lecture halls, there is a course and diploma design class, as well as specialized computer laboratories for computer graphics and multimedia, programming, and network technologies.

Student Life

The main areas of research work of the department are computer modeling of various processes, creation of software products using modern computer technologies, application of applied mathematics in solving production problems. During their studies, students undergo comprehensive computer training using the latest operating systems, languages and advanced technologies of professional programming, database management systems, computer-aided design systems, computer-aided control systems, artificial intelligence systems, and more.

Several times a semester, the department conducts career guidance practice with schoolchildren. The department of computer science hosts city and regional computer science and ICT Olympiads. In 2019, the department hosted the first stage of the ICPC International Programming Olympiad for the first time. Until February 2022, the Department of Informatics was the platform for the first stage, after the forced relocation, it annually participates on the platform of the Dnipro Polytechnic University.

Internship contracts are concluded with IT firms and enterprises in Ukraine.

between Azov State Technical University and LLC “Single Access Point” (Kyiv).«Єдина точка доступу» (S.P.O.C.) is a member of the All-Ukrainian public organization “Union of Business Automatizers” and has been cooperating with companies in many industries throughout Ukraine for over 20 years. For several years, students of the department have been undergoing internships at LLC “Single Access Point” under the guidance of the director of the enterprises Svitlana LYAKHOVCHENKO.

The main areas of pre-diploma practice for bachelors, studying in the educational program “Informatics”, are:

  • development of web applications and mobile applications of various topics; use of artificial intelligence; 3D modeling and Data Science methods in their own developments.
